On Saturday May 1, 2021 the Lima Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church welcomed Pastor Carl Brooks as their new pastor. The church was very excited to receive him after being without a pastor since the start of the pandemic. Pastor Brooks was introduced by Pastor Oswaldo Magana, Ministerial Secretary of the Ohio Conference of Seventh Day Adventists. At the service, Pastor Magana presented Pastor Brooks with his ministerial credentials authorizing him to serve the Lima district and world church of Seventh Day Adventists. In his first address to the church, Pastor Brooks thanked Elder Ed Hoffmeyer, First Elder, for his outstanding leadership during the long period without a pastor. In his sermon captioned “the dangers of spiritual apathy” Pastor Brooks encouraged the church to be alert, prepared, and always ready to serve.
Pastor Brooks hails from the beautiful Island of Jamaica, West Indies. He is no stranger to Adventism. As a young man, he served and held several departmental positions in his local Church including Youth Ministries, Sabbath School, and Personal Ministries. Out of this, his love and passion grew for the work of evangelism which later translated in him becoming a lay Evangelist.
After many evangelistic exploits, his call for pastoral ministry became even more obvious. Therefore, in following God's desire for his life, he enrolled at Northern Caribbean University in Jamaica where he earned a BA in Religion with an emphasis in spiritual care in December 2008. He later joined the East Jamaica Conference (EJC) of SDA team in 2010 as an ordained minister. During a 10-year tenure at EJC, Pastor Brooks championed the cause in the areas of evangelism and shepherding.
Pastor Brooks is married to the former Melissa Deenah. They have two lovely children, Mia-Karelle and Zachary. Together they lead a Christ centered ministry; one of humility, charity, love, and inclusiveness. Their objective as a pastoral team is to lead as many members as possible to be involved in fulfilling the divine mandate of connecting and leading others into the kingdom of God.
